Dr. Markus Richter

Dr Markus Richter was born in Münster / Westphalia in 1976. He has two children. After studying law at the University of Münster, he completed his legal doctorate in 2003 and did a legal internship at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm with his second state examination in law following one year later.
Since 2005, Dr Markus Richter has held numerous positions within the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), where he deals with the HR and organisational departments, the President’s Office and fundamental issues of integration and migration. In 2014, he took over the group management of the IT department within the Federal Office of Administration (BVA). In 2015, he returned to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees as the Head of Department for Infrastructure and IT, becoming the vice president of the authority in 2018.
Since 1 May 2020, Dr Markus Richter has been the Secretary of State in the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community (BMI) and the Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology.
